Con Funk Shun
Con Funk Shun was formed by high-school classmates Michael Cooper and Louis "Tony" McCall, along with Karl Fuller, Paul "Maceo" Harrell, Dennis Johnson, Cedric Martin, and Danny "Sweet Man" Thomas. All of them had been playing together since their high-school days in Vallejo, CA. Felton Pilate, also from Vallejo, joined the group after his band, a local rival, disbanded.
One of the most popular funk groups of the '70s, War were also one of the most eclectic, freely melding soul, Latin, jazz, blues, reggae, and rock influences into an effortlessly funky whole. Although War's lyrics were sometimes political in nature (in keeping with their racially integrated lineup), their music almost always had a sunny, laid-back vibe emblematic of their Southern California roots.
"Everything I do, I do it for you". Eddie Money says it at least once, every
show. And he means it. This straight up rock and roll icon has been making
music and delivering it to his fans since the mid 70's, and wouldn't have it any
other way. With hits like "Two Tickets To Paradise", "Baby Hold On", "Walk On
Water", "Think I'm In Love" and "Shakin", Eddie continues to be one of the
hardest working men in rock and roll.
Performing a compact 150 or so shows every year, Eddie is always touring,
somewhere. "My fans are the best, most loyal fans a guy could ask for. They
keep coming back for more and I'm not gonna stop until they make me stop".
Soon after Marco Antonio Solis left Los Bukis for a solo career in 1995, the remaining members -- vocalists Pedro Velazquez and Eusebio Cortes, drummers Jose Pepe Guadarrama and Pedro Sanchez, guitarist Joel Solis and keyboard player Roberto Guadarrama -- decided to form Los Mismos. Their debut album, 1996's Juntos Para Siempre, featured the hit "Me Esta Doliendo Dejarte." The following year's Te Llevas Mi Vida was followed by Gracias Por Todo later in 1997. Encuentro con el Milenio appeared two years later and Sin Mirar Atras was issued in fall 2000. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
