The Joe Mortara Golf Course at the Solano County Fairgrounds closed permanently on Wednesday, December 17, 2014. The decision became final when the Solano County Board of Supervisors approved the closure plan for the golf course at its November 25 meeting. The action came at the recommendation of the Board of Directors of the Solano County Fair Association.
“It was a difficult decision to decide to close the Joe Mortara Golf Course,” said Fairgrounds General Manager Stephen Pierce. “Unfortunately, our budget can no longer continue subsidizing a golf course that has been operating at a net loss each year. We greatly appreciate the support the golf community has given us in the past. Unfortunately, decreasing play, coupled with extensive maintenance and repair requirements over the last two years, make it unrealistic for us to keep the course open.”
